STRENGTHEN YOURSELF IN THE LORD
As I prepare for my trip back east I keep coming back to the teaching of the last two weeks of school. Those two weeks had a heavy focus on strengthening ourself in the lord and keeping our fire burning. This week I just wanted to take some time and talk about keeping the fire burning bright and keeping strong in the lord. Not only was the last two weeks of school a mass of messages on keeping strong but we also read Bill Johnson’s book Strengthen yourself in the lord. I would highly recommend this book as it really has given me a perspective to longevity when it comes to practical examples of burning.
We have all felt it maybe it’s defeat, a broken heart, down and out, discouraged, left out. These are all things every single person will most likely feel or go through at least once in life. But how does one over come? I wish I could give a system or method but I can’t as each and every persons needs and process is different. What I can say though is with pressing into the lord during these times (and all times) develops a shift in the atmosphere. Lately I’ve really been focused on noticing the times I’m needing to strengthen myself in the lord. Since I’ve been taking an honest approach at noticing my own actions I have really notice ahh this is a time I need to seek him more.
When we keep a focus on our emotions and don’t let them dictate us we can take an approach that helps us rather then shooting blanks. Without a firm foundation if we don’t seek him it’s easy to go the other way and get back into old way and doing things we don’t want to even do. Which then creates a vicious cycle of ups and downs. Just like one of the past messages I talked about filling our God spot it’s important to not use items or people to cope with our situation. These are the times to flex our Jesus muscles and get some strength from our savior.
The more each of us become a tune to our needs and how our emotions have dictated our actions we can take control of our circumstance. It could be as simple as putting worship music on, maybe getting into the word and hearing what he has to say, getting into biblical community and talking about life. All these can be ways to grow and strengthen ourself in the lord.
“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
Ephesians 6:10 NLT
So I just want to encourage you that you can do it! You are going to go far and succeed. If and when things get hard seek his face before everything else and really seek to grow into your relationship with the lord. The more seeking him is the first priority the stronger we will get in him and build a firm foundation.
